While our case manager and permanency specialist visited last week we discussed where the kids are in terms of coming to grips with the fact that they are not going back to live with their parents. At this time last year they still had daytime visits at home with their parents. I am guessing supervised and not overnight but I don’t know for sure.
The kids have been very confused about not being able to see them for holidays. No one has addressed this issue with them and I stumbled on it one day in the car. So we’ve since sat down and discussed how they are all feeling about it and if they had any questions. Luckily our oldest is in intense counseling. Tomorrow is Little Man’s evaluation for the in-home counseling so hopefully we will get that started up soon. Our case manager is also looking into getting play therapy started for our middle girl. Lastly, our agency offers a “prep class” for kids that are being adopted. They do a lot of arts and crafts type things that allow the kids to express their feelings and give a voice to their innermost thoughts. That way they work through their previous life and traditions in order to move on to their new life and how it might be good and different. Hopefully that should get started in a couple weeks. The prep class is for 6 months, biweekly. If I think we have a full schedule now I just can’t wait to see what it looks like in a month!
